We occupy a special part of Aotearoa that is steeped in history. The site of the property was once the mouth of a hot stream that flowed into Lake Taupo, providing a valuable source of food. The literal translation of Ika Nui is “Big Fish”, reflecting the scale and abundance of the kai that sustained local communities for many generations.
Our logo was designed in close collaboration with local Iwi. The first Māori design represents earth and water—and the space that we occupy in between. The second, smaller design is the guardian spirit for travellers, symbolising our hope for all visitors to experience a safe journey on or over the water.
